Audio anyone?

I am an avid audiobook listener. I’ve been hooked since the cassette tape days.

When I first started listening to audiobooks, I rented them from Audible, and they actually arrived in the mail. Do you remember those red Netflix envelopes? Same idea.

Only... cassettes.

I loved them because they were incredibly convenient. When I got in and out of the car, the story picked up exactly where I left off. No digging through a stack of CDs trying to remember which disc Chapter 36 was on.

That love of audiobooks has carried over into my writing life.

Audio has become one of my favorite editing tools. I listen while cooking, driving, mowing, riding the tractor—you get the idea. My husband knows the routine by now. The moment I hear a sentence that doesn't sound quite right, everything stops while I pull up the manuscript and fix it before I forget.

If you aren't using audio during your editing process, I highly recommend trying it for just one chapter. There are plenty of ways to listen to your manuscript, from built-in text-to-speech features to AI narration. Find the option that fits both your workflow and your budget. You may be surprised by what your ears catch that your eyes never did.

Now, audiobook production...

That's an entirely different animal.

I would love to release an audiobook for Uncrowned Heir, but right now my budget won't support a full professional production.

That hasn't stopped me from dreaming about it, though.

When the time comes, I'm leaning toward duet narration. I already have a short list of actresses I'd love to hear as Kaia, but I'm still searching for the perfect voice for Riven.

So now I'm curious...
