The Author

J.A. Rush

I live on eleven acres in North Carolina with my husband, four dogs, a flock of chickens, and more bees than I planned for. There's also a garden. It has opinions about what it will and won't grow.

I've been writing as a hobby for twenty-five years — fan fiction first, which is where I experimented and discovered my voice. Tension, character, how to make a slow burn feel like it cost something. My favorite television shows all had alternate endings: Stargate — Sam and Jack deserved their happy ever after. Firefly — River was too badass for just a few episodes and a movie. No one was safe from my pen. Last year I decided to write something of my own. Uncrowned Heir is my debut novel. I'm still not entirely sure how that happened.

I found romantasy the way most people do — one book, then suddenly it's 2am and you've bought four more and the audio versions! Fourth Wing, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Zodiac Academy. Before that it was Diana Gabaldon and Judith McNaught, which probably explains the complicated men and the feelings that take three hundred pages to resolve.

When I'm not writing I'm sewing, quilting, or following my husband somewhere we've never been. We travel as much as we can. The dogs make leaving complicated and coming home very loud.

Uncrowned Heir is the first book of the Riverset Trilogy. I hope it finds the right readers.
